35 years ago (4/17/84): Game ticket from #Pirates’ 4-1 loss to #Phillies in home opener. #LetsGoBucs
This was the first home opener that I attended in Pittsburgh, a few months before my tenth birthday. I went with my aunt Donna, then a Pitt student.
During the game, Bucs third baseman Jim Morrison batted and the organist played a song. Aunt Donna explained that the song had been sung by another man named Jim Morrison. She speculated that our Jim Morrison had hit the first pitch because he did not like hearing that song.
I also remember hearing the Go-Go’s “Head Over Heels”—the record, not an organ version—during one of the inning breaks. A group of teenagers a few rows away greeted Belinda Carlisle and Co. with enthusiasm.
